Halle's hospitals unite to revolutionize emergency and rehabilitation care

BG Klinikum Bergmannstrost and University Hospital Halle (Saale) have strengthened their partnership with a new agreement. A letter of intent was signed to build a state-of-the-art BG hospital on the university’s campus. The project aims to reshape emergency care in the region and set a national example. The plan involves moving BG Klinikum Bergmannstrost’s acute and emergency services to the University Hospital campus. This relocation will help create a supraregional trauma centre and remove duplicate structures in emergency care. The Bergmannstrost site will then be transformed into a modern centre for rehabilitation and outpatient services.

The new facility will specialise in early neurological rehabilitation and spinal cord injury care. It will also develop cross-sector outpatient structures to improve patient pathways. The initiative follows the recent merger of Christian hospitals St. Elisabeth & St. Barbara and Martha-Maria Dölau.

Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister-President Sven Schulze attended the signing ceremony, along with other state officials. University Hospital Halle has held a stake in the Diakonie Hospital for two years, reinforcing its role in the region’s healthcare network. The project is expected to secure the hospital site for decades. It will serve as a model for similar healthcare developments across Germany. The new BG hospital will enhance emergency and rehabilitation services in Halle (Saale).
