Hannah Murray exposes dark truth behind her wellness cult ordeal in new memoir
Actor Hannah Murray has revealed her disturbing experience inside a wellness cult in her upcoming memoir. The Skins and Game of Thrones star joined the group in 2017, leading to a severe mental health crisis. Her book, The Make-Believe: A Memoir of Magic and Madness, will be published on 23 June. Murray was introduced to the cult by an 'energy healer' recommended by her personal trainer while filming Detroit. The group revolved around a charismatic male leader who fostered a highly eroticised atmosphere. He often used sexual humour to assert control over members.
Over time, Murray spent large sums of money chasing 'wisdom and specialness' within the cult. Her involvement eventually triggered a psychotic episode, resulting in hospitalisation. Doctors later diagnosed her with bipolar disorder. The experience led Murray to step away from acting and distance herself from the wellness industry entirely.
Murray’s memoir documents the events leading to her breakdown and recovery. The book will be available from 23 June, offering a detailed account of her time in the cult. She has since left both the entertainment and wellness worlds behind.
