Holiday Project Transforms Learning for Migrant Children in Moitzfeld

A holiday project management initiative in Moitzfeld has given primary school children with migrant backgrounds or special educational needs a chance to learn and explore. Funded by the Aktion Deutschland Hilftfoundation, the initiative provided hands-on activities focused on nature, food, and healthy living. Organisers tailored the programme to ensure every child could take part and benefit.

The project management ran weekly, offering a mix of practical tasks and fun. Children harvested fruit, turned it into jam, and baked waffles together. They also played games, tried apple bobbing, and learned about seasonal changes and nutrition.

A special education teacher and an agricultural engineer from Farm in a Suitcase supported the activities. Their expertise helped guide the children through cooking, gardening, and other learning experiences. The programme was organised by Soziale Netzwerk Moitzfeld-Bensberg, which ensured activities suited each child's abilities.

During a visit, the children served homemade open-faced sandwiches topped with fresh vegetables to the founding couple of the Gellert foundation. The meal showcased what they had prepared and learned during the project management.

The holiday initiative combined education with practical skills in a welcoming setting. Children gained experience in cooking, gardening, and teamwork while exploring themes like healthy eating. The programme's success relied on tailored support and community involvement to meet each child's needs.
