How a Fujian native's lifelong fitness routine defies aging in Hong Kong

A lifelong commitment to fitness has shaped the daily routine of a former Fujian resident now living in Hong Kong. From early influences in childhood to structured workouts in later years, physical activity remains a cornerstone of their lifestyle. This dedication began decades ago and continues with discipline today. Growing up in Fujian, China, they often watched university students training near their home. Those early observations sparked a lasting interest in exercise. By the 1970s, after moving to Hong Kong, they took up jogging and walked to work to stay fit.

Their routine evolved over time. In 2010, shifting to part-time work in the jewellery industry gave them more freedom to focus on health. They quit smoking and alcohol entirely, prioritising well-being above old habits. Now, mornings start with light exercises in the courtyard, followed by afternoon gym sessions centred on calisthenics. Muscle-ups and pull-ups remain signature moves—even now, they can complete around five muscle-ups. Beyond the gym, they enjoy cycling, singing, and practising Chinese calligraphy. Occasionally, they teach classes at a local senior centre. Nutrition plays a key role too. Breakfast usually includes two eggs with whole-grain bread, steamed sweet potatoes, or *roti prata*. Most meals are home-cooked to avoid fried foods and keep a balanced diet. A newspaper article also led them to join *Team Strong Silvers*, a senior fitness group, further structuring their active lifestyle.

Decades of consistent effort have kept them agile and energetic. Their approach combines structured training, mindful eating, and community engagement. The results speak for themselves—maintaining strength, flexibility, and a passion for movement well into later life.
