Husband in Vienna arrested after allegedly attacking wife with flashlight

A 68-year-old man in Meidling has been accused of attacking his wife with a flashlight early on Thursday morning. The woman was discovered outside their home with a bleeding head wound and signs of shock. Police later seized a starter pistol from the couple’s apartment.

The incident unfolded in the early hours when the victim was found in the front garden of their detached house. She had sustained a head injury and was visibly distressed. Emergency services rushed her to hospital for treatment.

Her husband, an Austrian national of the same age, admitted to striking her with a flashlight while she slept. He claimed psychological stress from an upcoming move had driven him to act. Authorities immediately took him into provisional custody. Following the arrest, a restraining order was issued to prevent him from returning to the property or contacting his wife. During a search of the home, officers recovered a starter pistol, though its connection to the assault remains unclear.

The woman continues to receive medical care after the attack. Her husband faces further legal proceedings while remaining in custody. The restraining order ensures he cannot approach her or enter their shared residence.
