Imran Khan's secretive hospital transfer sparks family and party outrage over medical access

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan underwent a medical procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad on the night of January 24. The 20-minute treatment followed concerns over his eye condition, with authorities confirming his vitals remained stable throughout. His transfer from Adiala jail was tightly controlled, sparking criticism from his family and party over restricted access to his personal doctors.

Khan was taken to Pims under heavy security for the procedure, which lasted longer than initially expected. Officials later stated that his health was 'absolutely normal' after the examination. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) revealed he had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition requiring specialist care.

Following the procedure, Khan was returned to Adiala jail with what doctors described as 'important instructions' for his ongoing treatment. His son, Kasim Khan, accused authorities of obstructing proper medical care and preventing access to Khan's chosen physicians. Meanwhile, his sister, Noreen Niazi, demanded transparency, urging officials to release his medical reports and allow family and legal visits.

The PTI condemned the 'secretive' nature of the transfer, arguing it violated Khan's rights. In response, party lawmakers filed a fresh petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking permission for PTI members to meet him in custody. No official statements were issued regarding the medical team involved or specific treatment details.

Khan remains in Adiala jail, with his health declared stable by authorities. His family and party continue to push for unrestricted medical access and public disclosure of his condition. The IHC petition now awaits a ruling on whether PTI representatives will be granted visitation rights.
