Indian Workplaces Grapple With Silence Over Pregnancy Loss Stigma

A new study titled Break the Silence has revealed the widespread fear and silence surrounding pregnancy loss in Indian workplaces. Conducted by YouGov for Quest Global, the research shows that millions of women hide their experiences due to stigma and career concerns. In response, Quest Global has launched a campaign to address the issue and provide better support.

The study surveyed over 2,000 women and 200 men aged 25–39, including professionals in STEM, technology, engineering, and corporate roles. Findings revealed that around 80 million women stay silent about pregnancy loss, fearing judgement from colleagues and employers. Another 78 million worry that disclosing a miscarriage could lead to job loss or harm their career progression.

Three in four women reported a drop in confidence and work performance after experiencing pregnancy loss. Additionally, about 70 million women would consider quitting their jobs if they did not receive adequate support during such a difficult time. Quest Global has now partnered with YourDOST to offer free support services. These include a 24-hour helpline, peer support groups, and training resources for employees. Ajit Prabhu, Co-founder and CEO of Quest Global, called on business leaders to treat pregnancy loss as both a wellbeing and workforce issue.

The nationwide campaign aims to break the silence around pregnancy loss in workplaces across India. With new support systems in place, employees affected by miscarriage may now have better access to help. The initiative also pushes for greater awareness among employers about the impact of pregnancy loss on staff retention and performance.
