The city's appeal comes from a mix of affordability, convenience, and quality of life. Residents enjoy easy access to Manhattan, with travel times often beating those from outer NYC boroughs. At the same time, living costs remain significantly lower than across the Hudson.

Jersey City's high ranking stems partly from its low depression rate—the best among all 182 cities surveyed. The report linked this to balanced urban living, where residents benefit from both city amenities and financial relief. Median rents sit around $3,100, roughly 28-33% cheaper than New York City's $4,500 average.

Commuting plays a key role in the city's appeal. The PATH train connects Exchange Place to the World Trade Center in just four minutes. A trip from Grove Street to Christopher Street takes about ten. For those preferring water routes, the NY Waterway Ferry offers a scenic 15-minute ride to Midtown or Brookfield Place. Many find these options faster than travelling from distant NYC neighbourhoods. Financial perks also make Jersey City attractive. While commuting adds costs, residents often save by avoiding New York City's income tax. The city itself provides a lively atmosphere with diverse food, green spaces like Liberty State Park, and pedestrian-friendly plazas. Meanwhile, New York City—despite its recent boost in mood from sunny weather and reopened parks—lagged behind in the happiness ranking. Its 59th-place finish suggests that high living costs and longer commutes may outweigh its cultural and social advantages for many residents.
