Kazakhstan honors lifesaving blood donors on World Blood Donor Day

A celebratory event took place in Kazakhstan’s capital on 14 June to mark World Blood Donor Day. The gathering aimed to highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation and thank those who contribute. Organisers included the Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology, the Ministry of Health, and local authorities. The event recognised five individuals with the title of 'Honored Donor' for making over 40 blood or component donations. Among them was Nurlan Zhusupov, who has donated regularly since 2012. He emphasised that maintaining good health is essential for consistent donations.

In 2025, Kazakhstan’s donor movement grew to over 201,000 participants, with a total of 250,000 donations recorded. The centre receives between 120 and 150 donors daily. However, demand remains high due to medical advancements and an increasing number of patients requiring blood for surgeries, childbirth, cancer treatment, and severe anaemia.

Organisers stated that the rising involvement of young people and the expansion of the donor movement would help ensure a steady supply of blood and its components nationwide. The event highlighted the critical role of blood donations in saving lives. Officials expressed gratitude to donors and stressed the need for continued public support. The recognition of long-term contributors underscored the impact of regular donations on healthcare stability.
