Kriens extends free sports programmes for families and teens through 2028

Kriens has renewed its partnership with the Weekendsport Kriens association for another four years. The agreement ensures that free sports programmes for children, teens, and families will continue to run in the city. Officials say these initiatives help promote movement, social interaction, and community well-being.

Two key programmes will remain central to the partnership. 'Halle für Alle' offers free, open movement sessions every Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Roggern gymnasium. Children, teens, and parents can take part in unstructured play and sports together, regardless of club membership or financial background.

'Midnight Move' runs on Saturday evenings from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM in the same venue. Open to young people aged 12 and older, it focuses on football, basketball, dance, and hip-hop. The supervised sessions provide a safe space for physical activity and socialising during weekend evenings.

City Councilor Marco Frauenknecht highlighted the importance of these programmes. He described them as essential building blocks for a child-friendly community. Both initiatives work alongside Kriens' existing sports clubs, offering accessible options for all residents.

The renewed agreement guarantees that families and young people in Kriens will keep benefiting from free, health-focused leisure activities. The programmes will remain available at the Roggern gymnasium, ensuring ongoing opportunities for exercise and social connection. No details were provided on whether similar partnerships exist in other Swiss municipalities.
