Kriens Extends Free Sports Programs to Foster Community and Inclusion
The city of Kriens has renewed its partnership with the Weekendsport Kriens association for another four years. This collaboration aims to boost physical activity and social inclusion through free leisure programs. City officials describe the initiatives as vital for building a child-friendly community.
Two key programs will continue under the extended agreement. 'Halle für Alle' invites children, teens, and parents to enjoy free play and sports every Sunday afternoon from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Roggern gymnasium. The relaxed setting encourages social exchange and intergenerational bonding.
'Midnight Move' offers supervised activities for young people aged 12 and older every Saturday evening from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Participants can take part in football, basketball, dance, and hip-hop in a safe, engaging environment.
Both initiatives provide accessible spaces for all, regardless of club membership or financial background. They complement Kriens' existing sports clubs by removing barriers to participation. City Councilor Marco Frauenknecht praised the programs as cornerstones of a supportive community.
The renewed service agreement ensures these activities will remain available until at least 2028. They also align with Kriens' legislative goals in movement, health, and social inclusion.
The extended partnership secures long-term funding for free movement and social programs in Kriens. Children, young people, and families will continue to benefit from regular access to sports and community activities. No other Swiss municipality has implemented a similar model in recent years.
