Kuwait tightens medical testing rules for expats under 'Wafid' programme

Kuwait has updated its medical testing rules for expatriates under the ‘Wafid’ programme. The new bylaw, introduced by Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, aims to improve the speed and accuracy of health checks before and after arrival in the country. Officials describe the move as a precautionary step to ensure the health fitness of incoming workers and residents. The updated executive bylaw covers 54 articles focused on strengthening the medical test system. It sets clear criteria for approving and evaluating overseas centres that conduct pre-travel health checks. Only facilities meeting high moral, professional, and transparency standards will be authorised.

Upon arrival in Kuwait, expatriates will undergo further medical tests at approved local centres. These checks will follow strict health protocols to maintain preventive efficiency. The bylaw also introduces electronic linkages between health bodies to streamline data sharing and coordination. Officials emphasise that the changes will enhance preventive health measures. The system now requires stricter oversight of both domestic and international testing facilities. The goal is to reduce delays while ensuring reliable results for all incoming expats.

The new regulations tighten procedures for medical testing at every stage of an expat’s journey to Kuwait. Approved centres must meet higher standards, and digital systems will connect health authorities more efficiently. The measures are designed to maintain public health while simplifying the process for workers and residents entering the country.
