Magadan's Movement and Health Marathon Inspires Fitness for Students with Disabilities

A regional health marathon, Movement and Health, took place in the Magadan Region between January and May 2026. The event aimed to encourage new school initiatives focused on improving the well-being of students with intellectual disabilities. Teams from local educational centres presented projects designed to promote physical activity and healthy habits. The marathon required participating teams to submit five projects for evaluation. These included Exercise Breaks, Active Pause Sessions, Morning Workouts, a Sports and Dance Flash Mob, and a Mass Sports Event. Magadan Regional Education Center No. 2 showcased four of these initiatives, demonstrating their commitment to student health.

The judging panel featured experts from organisations such as the Arctic Research Center, the Magadan Region Department of Physical Culture and Sports, and local unions. Their role was to assess the creativity and effectiveness of each project. One highlight was the mass sports event, *Strength and Health in Russia’s Unity*, which incorporated traditional games from different regions of Russia. Another key moment was the outdoor festival *Movement Means Health!* at the boarding school. This lively event included games, relays, and a *Sports Dance Flash Mob*, turning the day into an energetic celebration. The marathon continued with presentations from educators and students at the Magadan Regional Boarding School. Their contributions added to the event’s focus on practical, engaging ways to support student health.

The Movement and Health marathon concluded after months of activities and presentations. The projects introduced—from morning workouts to regional games—provided schools with new tools for promoting fitness among students. Organisers and participants alike described the festival as a dynamic and joyful experience for all involved.
