Malnutrition Crisis Deepens in Taita-Taveta as Children Suffer

Taita-Taveta County is facing a sharp rise in malnutrition cases among young children and vulnerable mothers. Over 600 malnourished children have been admitted to health facilities this year, a significant increase compared to the same period in 2024. The crisis stems from poor food access, failed crops, and erratic rainfall patterns.

Hospitals and dispensaries across the county are reporting alarming rates of severe malnutrition. Children under five, along with pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, are the worst affected. Cases have been documented at Mwatate Sub-County Hospital, as well as Manoa and Buguta dispensaries near me.
