Medical Students Save Passenger's Life Mid-Flight to Moscow

A group of medical students from Vladivostok sprang into action during a flight to Moscow after a passenger fell seriously ill. The 59-year-old woman lost consciousness mid-air, prompting the young trainees to provide life-saving care for hours. The incident took place on May 18 aboard a Vladivostok-to-Moscow flight lasting eight hours and 35 minutes. The students, en route to Minsk for an international competition, used their training to respond immediately. Equipped with a stethoscope, a blood pressure monitor, and the plane’s medical kit, they worked for six hours to stabilise the woman’s condition.

Upon landing at Sheremetyevo Airport, the passenger was transferred to ground medical teams for further treatment. Later, during the Olympiad in Minsk, the students received commemorative awards for their quick thinking. The honours featured the emblem of the Start a Heart educational project, recognising their dedication under pressure. The passenger’s condition improved enough for a safe handover to paramedics. The students’ actions earned them formal recognition at the competition they had originally travelled to attend. Their training and composure proved crucial in a high-stakes emergency thousands of feet in the air.
