Motorcycle crash victim trapped in medical limbo after alleged hospital negligence

José Enrique Mendoza Bautista’s life changed on February 19, 2025, when a motorcycle accident left him with severe leg injuries. The incident occurred along Federal Highway 190 near Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca. Since then, his recovery has been marred by medical complications and alleged negligence at a local hospital. The crash happened after an ambulance struck José and fled without activating its lights or siren. He was rushed to a private clinic, where he underwent his first surgery on February 27, 2025. Doctors diagnosed an open fracture in his left tibia and fibula.

Three months later, his leg became infected, prompting him to buy voluntary IMSS insurance for further treatment. On July 20, 2025, he was admitted to IMSS Regional General Hospital No. 1 in Oaxaca City. There, he endured multiple surgeries that thinned the skin on his leg. Prolonged antibiotic use also damaged his kidneys and liver, forcing him onto dialysis. José has repeatedly requested a transfer to a third-level IMSS hospital in Puebla or Mexico City. He claims doctors have refused, leaving him without the specialised surgical care he needs. His condition has worsened as a result.

José’s case highlights ongoing struggles with medical care following the accident. His injuries, compounded by alleged delays and treatment issues, have led to further health decline. He remains in Oaxaca’s hospital, awaiting a resolution to his transfer request.
