Mumbai BJP President and MLA Ameet Satam has called for major improvements in the city’s healthcare system. In a recent meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), he pushed for better facilities, staffing, and disease prevention programmes across civic hospitals. Satam highlighted the need for more dialysis units in Mumbai. He also urged the BMC to ensure proposed cancer care beds become operational as planned. Another key demand was the creation of mental health centres throughout the city.
The MLA stressed the importance of training frontline healthcare workers to provide compassionate patient care. He proposed a city-wide ‘Diabetes-Free Mumbai’ campaign to combat rising diabetes cases. Additionally, he called for a detailed manpower plan to support new healthcare infrastructure.
With the BMC currently managing around 14,000 hospital beds, Satam recommended increasing the budget allocation per bed. He also noted that 5,000 more beds are expected in the coming years. The BMC administration was instructed to prepare an Action Taken Report (ATR) on the issues discussed in the meeting. The proposals aim to strengthen Mumbai’s healthcare network with more beds, specialised facilities, and trained staff. The BMC will now review the recommendations and submit a follow-up report on the next steps.
