Mumbai's Jiyo Samman Se Run 3.0 unites 1,100+ for epilepsy awareness on International Epilepsy Day

Over 1,100 people took part in Jiyo Samman Se Run 3.0, India's largest epilepsy awareness event. Organised by the Samman Association in Mumbai, the run aimed to promote equality and understanding for those living with epilepsy. The event coincided with International Epilepsy Day and drew participants from all age groups.

The run took place along the scenic Bandra Fort seafront, offering three race categories: 3 km, 5 km (timed), and 10 km (timed). The 10 km race was flagged off by Robin Behl, known as the fastest Indian to complete the Antarctic Ice Marathon. Participants included people with epilepsy, caregivers, doctors, families, volunteers, and fitness lovers.

Samman Association, the Mumbai chapter of the Indian Epilepsy Association, was founded in 1998. Its mission is to improve the lives of those with epilepsy through awareness, support, and better medical access. The event formed part of the global #50MillionCampaign, launched in 2023 by the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE). By February 2026, 42 countries had joined the campaign to enhance epilepsy care for 50 million people worldwide.

Dr Sangeeta Ravat, president of Samman Association, praised the event's role in raising awareness and fostering equality. Dr Jayanti Mani, the association's secretary, stressed the need for positivity and education to combat stigma around epilepsy.

The run successfully brought together diverse groups to support epilepsy awareness. As part of the #50MillionCampaign, it reinforced global efforts to improve care and reduce discrimination. The event's impact will likely extend beyond Mumbai, encouraging further participation in future initiatives.
