New Zealand man charged with stabbing deaths of partner and infant daughter in Queensland

A 38-year-old man from New Zealand has been charged with the stabbing deaths of his partner and their 11-month-old daughter in Queensland. Blake Matthew Seers allegedly attacked the two victims at their home in Logan before fleeing the scene. Police later found him after he was hit by a car.

The incident took place on March 18, 2026, when Seers is accused of using an edged weapon to fatally injure Kate Paterson and their infant daughter, April. Both victims died from critical wounds sustained in the attack.

After the alleged crime, Seers left the property and was struck by a vehicle. Authorities located him following the collision and took him into custody. He did not appear in court and was remanded to Beenleigh court on March 25. Seers has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. His defence lawyer, Nicholas Andrews, acknowledged the severity of the tragedy while stressing the importance of addressing his client's mental health condition.
