Nul launches digital therapy to combat alcohol addiction remotely

A new digital health service called Nul is tackling alcohol addiction with a remote subscription model. Founded by Matus Maar, the platform combines clinical care, medication, and behavioral support—all delivered online. The company has already attracted over 120 paying customers and secured £300,000 in annualised revenue since its trial phase last year.

The idea for Nul came after Maar struggled with daily drinking during the COVID-19 pandemic. Stress from a stock market correction led to his habit, but a family trip helped him reset and quit. With a background in tech investing—having funded firms like Darktrace and Onfido—he decided to build a scalable solution for others facing similar challenges.

Nul's approach mirrors other successful digital health providers such as Tempest and This Naked Mind. These platforms use app-based therapy, peer support, and medication management to treat addiction remotely. The market for such services has grown rapidly since 2021, driven by wider telehealth adoption and reduced stigma around seeking help.

The startup recently raised $1 million in funding, led by dmg ventures and BYVP. These funds will support a full UK launch and future expansion into the US. Maar's goal is to grow Nul sustainably, leveraging his experience in scaling tech businesses.

Nul enters a competitive but fast-growing sector, offering a fully remote alternative to traditional addiction treatment. With early revenue and investor backing, the company plans to expand beyond the UK. Its model aligns with broader trends in digital health, where convenience and accessibility are key.
