Nurse Kim reveals the worst partner behaviours during childbirth

A labour and delivery nurse known as Nurse Kim has spoken out about frustrating behaviours she often sees from partners during childbirth. Her observations highlight actions that can disrupt the birthing process and create unnecessary stress for new mothers.

One of Kim's biggest concerns is men who over-sexualise labour and delivery. She described how some partners make inappropriate comments or advances, even flirting with nurses while their partner is in labour.

She also criticised fathers who remain glued to their phones throughout the birth. Their constant scrolling and notifications break the focus needed in the delivery room. Another irritating type, according to Kim, is the 'gamer dad'—men who prioritise video games over supporting their partner during labour. Other problematic behaviours include partners who get high, filling the room with the smell of cannabis mixed with cheap cologne. Some fathers even answer medical questions directed at the labouring woman, a habit Kim calls 'the Answer Man.' She also mentioned men who eat non-stop while their partner is giving birth or refuse to let visitors leave, preventing the new mother from resting. Kim gave a special mention to one father who spent the entire labour flirting with her instead of supporting his partner.

Nurse Kim's comments shed light on how certain actions by partners can negatively impact the birthing experience. While her observations are based on personal experience, they highlight the importance of attentive and respectful support during labour.
