Omsk Oblast sees shifting poisoning trends in 2025 drug and alcohol data
Poisoning cases in Omsk Oblast showed mixed trends in 2025, with some causes rising while others declined. Drug overdoses remained the most common issue, though their share fell slightly. Meanwhile, medication-related incidents increased, and alcohol poisonings dropped significantly compared to the previous year. Official figures revealed that narcotic substances were the leading cause of poisoning in the region, accounting for 35.1% of cases. However, this marked a 6.3% decrease from 2024. Pharmaceutical drugs followed as the third most common cause at 24%, with overdoses rising by 5.5% over the same period.
Alcohol-related poisonings made up 26% of all cases, placing it second on the list. Despite this, the region saw a sharp 23.3% decline in such incidents compared to 2024. Adults were overwhelmingly affected, representing 89% of alcohol and surrogate alcohol poisonings. Geographically, the data highlighted a clear divide. The city of Omsk itself accounted for 81% of all recorded poisonings, while rural districts made up the remaining 19%.
The 2025 report shows shifting patterns in poisoning causes across Omsk Oblast. While drug-related incidents remain dominant, their slight decline contrasts with the rise in medication overdoses. Alcohol poisonings, though still widespread, have decreased notably, reflecting changing trends in substance-related harm.
