Parental burnout crisis in Syktyvkar leaves mothers exhausted and unsupported
Parental burnout can result in severe health problems and escalating family tensions—even physical abuse—specialists from the Family and Child Social Support Center cautioned during a public hotline organized by the Head of the Republic of Komi's Public Reception Office, as reported by the Komi Ministry of Labor's press service.
Experts define burnout as a prolonged state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. Key symptoms include chronic fatigue, a loss of interest in parenting, and a mother's emotional detachment from her child. Women are particularly vulnerable due to overwhelming social pressures, the specialists noted.
"Women bear an immense load—they're expected to do it all: raise children, hold down jobs, and still look perfect. That's why we so often feel drained and reluctant to meet our children's needs for active attention," explained Yekaterina Tsurkanu, a specialist at the center.
To prevent crises, residents of Syktyvkar are encouraged to seek free psychological counseling at the center, with services available in every district of the city.
