Patient armed with scissors threatens nurses at St. Jude General Hospital

Police were called to St. Jude General Hospital after a 60-year-old patient threatened two nurses with scissors. The man, who was in poor health, became aggressive before officers arrived to secure the area. No other patients were at risk during the incident.

The confrontation began when the patient grabbed scissors and turned on the nursing staff. The two nurses managed to exit the room safely and barricaded the door behind them. Police arrived shortly after and attempted to communicate with the man, but he did not respond.

The man stayed out of sight in a corner of the room. Officers later saw him move towards the bed unarmed. Additional officers, trained in de-escalation techniques, were brought in to assist before the team entered the room and restrained him.

Despite the altercation, the man remained in St. Jude General Hospital for ongoing medical treatment. Authorities have since launched criminal proceedings against him.

The incident follows broader improvements in hospital security across Germany. Over the past five years, stricter safety measures—such as better staff training, de-escalation rooms, and updated restraint guidelines—have reduced aggressive incidents by 15–20%. The case will now proceed through the legal system.
