Philippines Reports 4,633 New HIV Cases in Early 2026
The Philippines recorded 4,633 new HIV cases in the first three months of 2026. Daily figures show an average of 51 infections, highlighting a steady rise in transmissions. Sexual contact remains the primary cause, accounting for the vast majority of cases reported so far this year. January saw the highest number of infections, with 1,690 new HIV cases. This was followed by 1,407 cases in February and 1,536 in March. Together, these figures bring the total to 4,633 cases for the quarter.
Of these, 91 percent were attributed to sexual transmission. Male-to-male sex accounted for 3,095 cases, making it the most common mode of transmission. Another 567 cases resulted from male-to-female or female-to-male contact, while 552 were linked to male-to-female sex alone. Non-sexual transmission was far less common. Only 13 cases were traced back to mother-to-child transmission during this period.
The data confirms a persistent trend of sexually transmitted HIV infections in the Philippines. With 51 new cases reported each day, health officials continue to monitor the situation closely. Efforts to address transmission remain focused on prevention and awareness campaigns.
