Swedish Queen Visits Clinic Named After Her - Queen Silvia's Flensburg visit spotlights decades of dementia and child advocacy

Queen Silvia of Sweden will spend two days in Flensburg this week. The visit will focus on projects linked to her long-standing charitable work in dementia care and child protection. Both causes have been central to her advocacy for decades.

On the first day, the queen will tour the Queen Silvia Unit at St. Francis Hospital. This specialised ward treats dementia patients who need hospital care for other acute illnesses. She will also deliver a speech during the visit.

The unit is part of a wider network of Silviahemmet projects, which she launched in 1996 to improve life for those with dementia. Over the past 20 years, these initiatives have grown to include more than 20 care facilities across Sweden, Germany, the US and China.

The following day, Queen Silvia will visit the Childhood House run by Pro Familia. The centre provides a safe space for children and young people who have suffered abuse. It receives support from the World Childhood Foundation, an organisation she established to protect vulnerable minors.

Her work in child welfare extends globally, with projects in 15 countries, including Ghana, Romania and Brazil. Through the Silvia Kibi Foundation and other initiatives, she has helped fund or create around 40 programmes focused on children's rights.

The trip highlights Queen Silvia's ongoing commitment to dementia care and child protection. Both areas have seen significant expansion under her leadership, with facilities and foundations now operating worldwide. Her visit to Flensburg will showcase the local impact of these efforts.
