Regensburg's Free Lecture Helps Seniors Stay Safe and Independent at Home
The City of Regensburg's Senior Services Office is organising a free lecture to help older adults live safely and independently at home. Aimed at seniors and their families, the event will offer clear advice on home modifications and local support networks. Experts will also provide direct contacts for assistance services in the region.
The session takes place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:30 PM in the Kneitinger Stüberl at the Kumpfmühl Community Center on Kumpfmühler Straße 52.
Staff members Elfriede Windpassinger and Melanie Kagerer will lead the discussion. Their presentation will cover key topics such as age-appropriate home renovations and everyday assistance programmes. Attendees will also learn about neighbourhood initiatives like Regensburg's Friendly Neighbors, which connects volunteers with seniors needing support.
While Bavaria has no official count of local support networks, at least a dozen active groups exist across the region. Examples include Nachbarschaftshilfe Helfen mit Herz in Weiherhammer, SoNNe e.V. in Gars/Inn, and volunteer-driven initiatives in Obertaufkirchen, Reichertsheim, and Maitenbeth. These organisations provide daily help through coordinated volunteer efforts.
The speakers will share practical tips for adapting homes to prevent accidents and improve accessibility. They will also explain how to access volunteer networks that assist with shopping, errands, and social visits. The event aims to give attendees direct contacts for local services, ensuring they leave with actionable information.
The lecture offers a chance for seniors and their relatives to explore ways of staying independent at home. Free to attend, it will provide clear strategies for home safety and connections to volunteer support. Organisers hope the session will help participants navigate available resources with confidence.
