Revolutionary Hip Navigation System Debuts in U.S. Surgeries Without Imaging

A new medical device has made its debut in U.S. operating theatres. The GYDER Hip Navigation System, developed by Gyder Surgical, was used for the first time in commercial surgeries last month. The technology aims to improve precision in hip replacement procedures without relying on traditional imaging methods or invasive tools.

The initial surgeries took place in February 2026 at Tri-County Orthopedics' Joint Replacement Institute in New Jersey. Dr. Paul M. Lombardi, an orthopaedic surgeon, led the procedures and praised the system's accuracy. He noted that it caused minimal disruption to the usual surgical process.

The GYDER system uses patented technology to guide real-time placement of the acetabular cup. Unlike older methods, it avoids metallic pins and does not require CT or X-ray imaging. This reduces risks such as pelvic pain, fractures, and metal fragments left behind in patients.

Before its U.S. launch, the system had already been tested in surgeries in Australia and India. It received FDA 510(k) clearance, allowing commercial use in the U.S. and Australia. The device is designed for quick setup and easy integration into existing workflows, making it suitable for outpatient centres.

Until now, no other country had recorded clinical use of the GYDER system in orthopaedic procedures. Its introduction marks a shift from preclinical development to real-world application.

The GYDER Hip Navigation System is now available for surgeons in the U.S. and Australia. Its ability to enhance cup placement accuracy may lead to fewer complications and lower healthcare costs. The first successful surgeries suggest it could become a standard tool in hip replacement operations.
