State Medical Association and State Sports Association: More Cooperation - Rhineland-Palatinate unites sports and medicine to boost public health
Prevention and Treatment: State Medical Association and State Sports Federation Aim to Boost Health Through Closer CollaborationA long-standing idea is gaining fresh momentum.
To promote public health in Rhineland-Palatinate, the State Sports Federation (Landessportbund) and the State Medical Association (Landesärztekammer) plan to deepen cooperation across multiple areas. Working alongside sports clubs and associations, they intend to develop joint programs, events, and campaigns, the State Medical Association announced. The two organizations also aim to strengthen mutual support in public relations and outreach efforts.
According to the statement, Dr. Günther Matheis, president of the State Medical Association, emphasized that physical activity benefits nearly every organ system. "It strengthens the cardiovascular system, builds muscle, supports the musculoskeletal system, and aids in weight management," he noted. As a result, regular exercise can help prevent numerous diseases and reduce risk factors.
Rudolf Storck, president of the State Sports Federation, highlighted the often-overlooked mental health benefits of sports. Beyond physical well-being, he explained, sports provide a social network that helps combat loneliness and isolation.
The concept of collaboration between the two bodies dates back to 2001, the announcement noted. Now, the initiative is being revived with renewed energy.
