Russia's top traffic violations put lives at risk, officials warn

Traffic violations remain a major concern on roads, with common offences leading to serious accidents. Anastasia Koshkina, a senior inspector for public outreach at the Main Directorate for Road Safety (UGIBDD) in Russia’s Magadan Region, has highlighted the most frequent and dangerous breaches of road rules. Among the top violations, drivers often fail to wear seatbelts correctly or ignore red lights. Speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, and disregarding right-of-way rules also contribute to collisions. These mistakes can have severe consequences, especially for motorcyclists, who lack the structural protection of cars.

Novice drivers frequently break speed limits or park incorrectly. Another issue is illegal window tinting, which carries a 500-ruble fine and an order to remove the tint. Police can stop vehicles for random document checks, even without suspected violations. Signs of intoxication, such as rolling down windows in cold weather or erratic driving, can also alert officers to potential dangers on the road.

The most common traffic offences include improper seatbelt use, running red lights, and speeding. These violations increase the risk of accidents, particularly for vulnerable road users. Authorities continue to monitor and enforce regulations to improve road safety.
