Rustington's Booker Hall Unites Community with Award-Winning Design

A new community hall in Rustington has brought residents together while earning recognition for its thoughtful design. Booker Hall, built by Pilbeam Construction, replaces an outdated 1970s structure with a modern, sustainable space. The project has already improved social connections among elderly residents and received praise in the 2025 Sussex Heritage Trust Awards. The original communal building from the 1970s was demolished to make way for Booker Hall. The new development includes a Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) framed hall, a modern laundrette, offices, and energy-efficient flats. Large windows, vaulted ceilings, and skylights create bright, welcoming spaces for both residents and employees.

The hall’s design focuses on sustainability and accessibility. Inside, a fully equipped kitchen and flexible event spaces cater to local groups. The housing society also benefits from hiring out the facilities, generating extra income while fostering community links. Since opening, elderly residents at the sheltered complex have been socialising more often. The new offices provide staff with a collaborative workspace, featuring natural light and views of landscaped planting. The entire project was officially unveiled by the Littlehampton and Rustington Housing Society.

Booker Hall now serves as a hub for both residents and the wider Rustington community. Its sustainable features and modern amenities have already enhanced daily life for elderly residents. The scheme’s success was further acknowledged with a high commendation in the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards.
