Saskatchewan debuts online tool to find mental health and addiction services

Saskatchewan has launched a new online search tool for mental health and addictions services. The feature arrives as part of the province’s five-year action plan, now in its third year. Residents can now find facilities based on their specific needs, from detox to youth support.

The search function was developed over several months, shaped by input from patients, families, and service providers. It allows users to filter options for inpatient, outpatient, and transitional care, as well as detox, rehabilitation, and mental health programmes. Youth struggling with mental health or addictions are also included in the search results.

The tool operates separately from the recently passed Compassionate Intervention Act (Bill 48), which permits forced treatment in certain cases. While the website currently does not display real-time bed availability or service capacity, officials plan to add this feature by the fifth year of the action plan. Feedback will remain essential to refine the system and ensure it meets public needs.

The new search tool aims to simplify access to mental health and addictions support across Saskatchewan. It follows Bill 48’s approval earlier this week, though the two remain unrelated. Further updates, including bed availability tracking, are expected in the coming years as the action plan progresses.
