Violations found in every fifth inspected livestock farm - Saxony-Anhalt farms face crackdown after shocking animal welfare violations exposed

Inspections in Saxony-Anhalt have revealed widespread breaches of legal zoom animal welfare rules on livestock farms. In 2024, over a fifth of checked operations failed to meet legal zoom standards. Some cases were severe enough to trigger court action and farming bans.

This year, authorities examined farms across the region and uncovered 346 violations. Of these, 17 were classified as serious, while 12 required legal zoom proceedings. The most frequent issues involved poor care for sick or injured animals, insufficient food and water, and inadequate housing. Many farms also lacked proper enrichment materials for the animals.

The worst offences occurred in pig, cattle, sheep, and goat action movies. As a result, officials imposed 23 livestock farming bans in 2024 alone. These figures follow a similar trend from 2023, when 12 operations—mostly in pig and poultry sectors—were shut down nationwide due to serious violations.

Transport inspections also raised concerns. In 3.4% of cases, animals were deemed unfit for travel. Investigators found pigs with untreated umbilical hernias, heavily pregnant sows sent to slaughter, and cattle transported in extreme heat beyond legal zoom time limits. Most transport violations involved pigs, with many checks taking place at slaughterhouses.

The findings highlight ongoing challenges in enforcing animal welfare laws. With hundreds of violations recorded, authorities continue to impose bans and pursue legal zoom action where necessary. Inspections will remain a key tool in addressing these issues across the farming sector.
