Ombudsman Office for Child and Youth Welfare with 270 Consultations - Saxony-Anhalt's Child Advocacy Office Sees Surge in Demand Since 2020 Launch
Saxony-Anhalt's ombuds office for child and youth services has seen growing demand since its launch in 2020. Originally set up to help young people and families resolve disputes with welfare services, the office now handles far more cases than in its early years. Funding for 2026 has been secured at around €387,000 to support its expanding work.
The office began operations in 2020 with just 35 consultations. By 2025, that number had risen sharply to about 270. Most enquiries involve communication problems, lack of involvement in decisions, or unmet legal rights.
Initially based in Stendal and Magdeburg, the service now includes two extra locations in Halle and Dessau-Roßlau. A third site in Halle is also planned for the future. Advice is offered by phone, online, or in person, ensuring flexibility for those seeking help.
The ombuds office provides confidential, expert support to help young people and families assert their rights. Its role has become increasingly important as more people turn to it for guidance in dealing with child and youth services.
With demand steadily increasing, the ombuds office will continue its work across multiple sites. The €387,000 funding for 2026 ensures its services remain available to those navigating conflicts with welfare authorities. The expansion reflects its growing importance in supporting young people and families in Saxony-Anhalt.
