Second Malaysian pilgrim dies of heart attack during hajj in Mecca

A second Malaysian pilgrim has died during this year’s hajj. The 70-year-old man from Johor suffered a fatal heart attack on Sunday, May 5. His death follows that of another pilgrim from Pahang just days earlier.

The latest victim, part of the KT34 group, was staying at the Elaf Al Bait hotel in Mecca. He was rushed to Ajyad Hospital but passed away at 6.16pm local time (11.16pm Malaysian time). His remains were later taken to Masjidil Haram for funeral prayers after the dawn prayer.

He was buried at Al Sharayea Cemetery. The pilgrim, originally from Senggarang, Johor, had been participating in the annual pilgrimage when the incident occurred. The first death involved a 65-year-old man from Pahang. He collapsed while walking to Friday prayers at the courtyard of Masjidil Haram on May 1.

Authorities have now recorded two deaths among Malaysian pilgrims this year. Both cases involved men in their late 60s and early 70s. The latest burial took place at Al Sharayea Cemetery after funeral rites were completed.
