SRF journalist's long road to recovery after vocal cord surgery delays return

SRF journalist Anna-Lisa Achtermann remains off work while recovering from vocal cord surgery. The procedure, carried out weeks ago, removed a polyp that had left her hospitalized. Her return to full duties, including on-camera appearances, is now expected in mid-February.

Achtermann's condition required hospital treatment after a polyp was found on her vocal cords. The issue has kept her from working, as her voice is central to her role as a correspondent.

Her recovery is taking longer than initially hoped. Though the surgery happened weeks ago, her vocal cords still need more time to heal. She has described the process as 'learning to speak again' while working with a speech therapist.

Rest remains a priority, and she is currently unfit for any professional duties. The journalist has not yet set a date for returning to court reporting or other assignments.

Achtermann's planned return in mid-February will mark the end of her extended break. Until then, she continues rehabilitation to regain full use of her voice. Her absence has been necessary due to the ongoing healing process.
