A 31-year-old woman from St. Petersburg has come forward with allegations of prolonged sexual abuse by her stepfather. Yana, whose name has been changed for privacy, claims the abuse began when she was just 11 years old and continued until she was 16. The case has since led to serious mental health consequences for her, including diagnoses of post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar affective disorder.

The abuse allegedly took place between 2006 and 2011, with Yana describing a pattern of manipulation and coercion. Her stepfather, a lighting designer at the Levental Theater, is accused of inappropriately touching her, exposing himself, and filming her in the shower. Reports state he also threatened to share the recordings and discussed BDSM with her while she was still a child.

Yana's mother only became aware of the allegations years later. The delayed disclosure highlights the difficulties many survivors face in speaking out. Meanwhile, official data from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs shows a rise in reported child abuse cases in St. Petersburg. Between 2021 and 2025, around 1,200 additional cases were recorded, with a clearance rate of 65%. This figure sits between Moscow's 58% and Novosibirsk's 72% for the same period.

The case has brought renewed attention to the handling of child abuse investigations in Russia. Yana's experience underscores the long-term psychological impact of such crimes, while the statistics reveal ongoing challenges in addressing and resolving these cases. Authorities continue to investigate the allegations against her stepfather.
