Startup founders warn of burnout as AI skills and flexible hours gain urgency

A new survey reveals the growing concerns of startup founders about workplace health and the future of work. Many see burnout and mental overload as serious risks for their teams. The findings also highlight strong support for AI skills and flexible working hour regulations. The survey shows that 45 percent of founders consider burnout a central risk for their employees. Professional uncertainty is the main source of stress for 62 percent of respondents. Nearly 80 percent of them view workplace health as a major priority, yet only 51 percent allocate financial resources to employee well-being.

Two-thirds of founders believe high workloads pose a health risk. Another 66 percent think mental overload will become a health hazard within five years. These concerns come as the federal government plans to replace the daily work hour limit with a weekly maximum of 48 hours. Sixty percent of founders support this shift to a weekly cap.

Looking ahead, 83 percent of founders believe AI tool proficiency will become a core skill. Eighty-one percent expect AI to boost their employees' productivity. The survey highlights key challenges for startups, including stress, workload, and workplace health. It also points to growing confidence in AI as a productivity tool. The federal government’s proposed weekly work hour cap aligns with the preferences of many founders.
