Sverdlovsk Region Opens New Life Shelter for Young Mothers in Crisis

A new crisis shelter for young mothers has opened in the Sverdlovsk Region. Called New Life, it provides temporary housing and support for women and their children in difficult situations. The facility is part of a wider regional effort to strengthen family welfare and child protection. The shelter is located at Branch No. 2 of the Children’s Home in Sysert District. It can house up to four mothers with their children at once, offering private rooms, a shared kitchen, and communal spaces for laundry and ironing. Currently, 16-year-old Sofia and her son Yegor are among the first residents.

The project was launched by the Sverdlovsk Region’s Ministry of Social Policy, working with the *Strong Generation* nonprofit organisation. Social workers, psychologists, and educators are on hand to assist the mothers and care for the children. Most families stay for around six months while receiving guidance and support.

The New Life shelter aims to help vulnerable young mothers regain stability. By offering a safe place to live and access to professional assistance, the initiative supports both parent and child. The facility is now operational and accepting new residents in need of temporary housing.
