Sylvie Meis Speaks About Trauma in Court - Sylvie Meis reveals lasting trauma after €530K designer handbag burglary

Dutch TV personality Sylvie Meis has spoken in court about the lasting impact of a 2023 burglary at her Hamburg home. Over 40 designer handbags, worth around €530,000, were stolen during the break-in. The incident has left her struggling with panic attacks and sleepless nights ever since.

The burglary took place in July 2023 while Meis was at her apartment in an upscale Hamburg neighbourhood. An alarm system was triggered, but the thieves still managed to take the handbags—many of which held deep sentimental value.

More than two years later, Meis testified in the trial of the 42-year-old defendant. She described how the trauma has lingered, with unexpected noises now causing panic attacks, particularly in the evenings. Her young son has also been affected, voicing fears about their safety.

During the hearing, the defendant apologised directly to Meis. She later told reporters that she believed his remorse was genuine.

The trial has brought renewed attention to the emotional toll of the burglary. Meis continues to deal with anxiety, while her stolen belongings remain unrecovered. The court's verdict will determine the next steps for the defendant.
