Teen Suffers Severe Burns After Dangerous Fire-Breathing Stunt Goes Wrong
A 14-year-old girl in Pittsburgh suffered severe burns after attempting a dangerous fire-breathing stunt. The incident involved isopropyl alcohol, commonly known as rubbing alcohol. Fire officials have since issued a strong warning about the risks of such challenges.
The teenager sprayed isopropyl alcohol into her mouth and tried to spit it onto an open flame. Instead, the vapour ignited violently, causing flames to engulf her face, neck, and upper body. She was immediately rushed to a specialist burn centre for emergency treatment.
Doctors later intubated the girl due to the severity of her injuries. Pittsburgh Fire Chief Tommy Dick confirmed she was fortunate to survive, as the fire could have spread even further. He stressed that using rubbing alcohol for fire breathing is extremely hazardous.
Authorities suspect the stunt was part of a social media trend. While exact figures on such incidents are not tracked nationally, medical reports show isolated cases of children and teens suffering burns from similar attempts. The chief urged parents and young people to avoid these life-threatening challenges.
The girl remains in hospital with serious burns. Fire officials have repeated warnings about the dangers of flammable liquids in stunts. They are calling for greater awareness to prevent further injuries from such trends.
