A medical student from Thammasat University has taken top honours at a major emergency medicine competition. Chawit Wanamongkol won gold in the individual category at the 10th KKU International Challenge of Emergency Medicine (ICEM) 2026. The event tested skills in advanced cardiac life support and handling urgent medical scenarios. The competition followed the latest ACLS and PALS 2025 guidelines, covering adult and paediatric emergencies. Participants faced three tough rounds: Preliminary, Semi-Final, and Final. In the Semi-Final, teams tackled high-pressure cases, including cardiac arrest caused by pulmonary embolism.

Chawit Wanamongkol, now in his sixth year, has been drawn to emergency medicine since his second year of study. He described emergency physicians as unsung heroes who stabilise patients in critical moments. According to him, a strong emergency doctor must stay calm, act quickly, and pay close attention to detail.

Wanamongkol also stressed the value of teamwork in medicine, noting that no single doctor can treat a patient alone. His team included fellow sixth-year students Pheem Phongsukwechakul and Supapitch Subenja, along with fifth-year student Thorntarathip Singthong. Together, they earned the second runner-up prize in the team category. The 10th KKU ICEM 2026 highlighted the skills of future emergency medicine professionals. Thammasat University's team demonstrated expertise in handling complex medical crises. As of now, no further details have been released about other Thai universities participating in this year's challenge.
