Tippy Toes Baby Food Recalled Over Patulin Contamination Risk

Initiative Foods has recalled a batch of its Tippy Toes baby food after tests revealed high levels of patulin. The affected product is a fruit puree made with apples, pears, and bananas. So far, no illnesses linked to the recall have been reported.

The recall covers a single lot of Tippy Toes apple, pear, and banana puree. It was sold in two-packs of plastic tubs with a best-by date of July 17, 2026. Sales records show the product reached at least seven major US retailers, including Aldi, Walmart, Kroger, Publix, H-E-B, Winn-Dixie, and Meijer.

The recalled items were distributed nationwide, excluding Alaska. Patulin, the substance found in the puree, is a natural toxin produced by moulds in fruits like apples. While no immediate health risks have been reported, long-term exposure can cause nerve damage and weaken the immune system.

Initiative Foods has advised customers to check their supplies. Anyone with the affected product should stop using it and contact the company for a refund or replacement.

The recall remains limited to one production batch, with no confirmed cases of illness. Consumers can identify the affected puree by its packaging and best-by date. The company continues to monitor the situation and work with retailers to remove the product from shelves.
