Urgent Blood Donations Needed in Colorado for Summer Emergencies
The American Red Cross is asking Colorado and Northern Colorado residents to donate blood now. The appeal aims to prepare hospitals for summer emergencies and trauma cases. May marks Trauma Awareness Month, making the call for donations even more urgent. Blood donations are critical during the summer, when accidents and injuries tend to rise. Hospitals need a steady supply for surgeries, cancer treatments, and severe bleeding cases. The Red Cross stresses that blood must be available immediately in emergencies.
Residents can donate at the American Red Cross office, 444 N. Sherman St., Denver, every Monday and Friday in May and June from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. An additional session will take place on June 3 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Donors who give by May 31 will receive an oversized Red Cross beach towel, while supplies last. Those who donate between June 1 and June 28 will get a $15 e-gift card and a chance to win one of two $7,500 gift cards. Appointments can be booked online via the Red Cross Blood Services website or through the Red Cross Blood Donor App. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old in most states, weigh no less than 110 pounds, and be in good health. The Red Cross also recommends using RapidPass to complete health questions online before arriving, speeding up the donation process.
The Red Cross is urging all eligible residents to schedule appointments in the coming weeks. A strong blood supply helps ensure hospitals are ready for summer emergencies. Donors can contribute at multiple locations and receive incentives for their support.
