Vienna's 'Library Chats' Tackles Loneliness with Free Social Meetups in 2026
Vienna Health Promotion (WiG) is bringing its 'Library Chats' programme to the Favoriten district in early 2026. The initiative aims to reduce loneliness and build social connections among residents. Free sessions will run from February to June at four local libraries.
The programme launches on February 5, 2026, and continues until June 18. Meetings will take place on alternating Thursdays and Fridays, with no need for registration. Participants can drop in at any session without cost.
Four libraries will host the gatherings: Simmering Education Center, Leberberg, Neues Landgut, and Per-Albin-Hansson-Siedlung. Each location will welcome attendees looking to connect with others in a relaxed setting.
Experienced moderators from the Sorgenetz association will lead the discussions. The sessions are designed for older adults, newcomers to Vienna, and single residents. Organisers hope the informal chats will help people form new friendships and support networks.
The expansion into Favoriten follows the success of similar programmes in other districts. By offering free, accessible meetups, WiG and Sorgenetz aim to create regular opportunities for social interaction. The first session begins on February 5 at the Simmering Education Center.
