Wesel's 2026 Health Awareness Week Expands Inclusivity for All Residents
Wesel's annual Health Awareness Week will return in 2026 after a successful vote at the October 2025 networking meeting. The event, running from April 20 to April 25, aims to offer accessible health education for all residents, with a particular focus on people with immigrant backgrounds. Organisers have planned a mix of workshops, lectures, and activities designed to be inclusive and easy to understand. The week will kick off at 2 p.m. on April 20 in the Council Chamber of Wesel City Hall. Mayor Thomas Kubendorff will open the event, followed by a lecture from Sabine Fabek-Fest on the topic of 'Stress and Health'. Sessions will cover a wide range of subjects, including 'Healthy Nutrition', 'Optimal Movement', and 'Discrimination', catering to both the general public and professionals.
Many of the sessions are designed to be low-threshold, with some offerings presented in plain language to ensure accessibility. The programme is the result of collaboration between local organisations and institutions, coordinated by Wesel's Integration Commissioner, Lotte Goldschmidtböing. Her 'Wesel Connects' networking meetings, held twice a year, bring together groups working with immigrant communities to shape the event. A detailed schedule of activities is available in an informational flyer, distributed at public institutions across Wesel. The flyer can also be downloaded as a PDF from the city's official website. Funding for speaker and trainer fees, totalling around €2,000, is provided by the City of Wesel. Health Awareness Week first launched as 'Women's Health Week' in 2020 but paused due to the pandemic. It returned in 2022 and has since expanded to address broader health topics, maintaining its focus on inclusivity and support for diverse communities.
The 2026 Health Awareness Week builds on past success, offering a structured programme of free, accessible activities. Organisers have ensured that information is widely available through flyers and online resources. The event reflects ongoing efforts to promote health education and community engagement in Wesel.
